Integrity Code

This is the draft Code of Integrity for Sport and Recreation (Integrity Code) that we are seeking feedback on.

Discussion document

The discussion document provides information about the Integrity Code and the key topics we are seeking feedback on:

  • how the Integrity Code protects participants

  • the minimum standards

  • the adoption process

  • complaints and investigations

  • disciplinary processes and sanctions.

Explainers and resources

Find short explainers on key topics in the Integrity Code.

The Overview of the Integrity Code explainer is available in both English and te reo Māori.

It is also available in the following alternative formats: Easy Read, Audio, Large Print and EBraille

Adopting the Integrity Code

As part of its support for the sector to navigate the new Incorporated Societies Act, Sport NZ has made available national and regional toolkits with constitution templates. These constitution templates include example clauses relating to adoption of the Integrity Code, Organisations can use these for the purposes of adopting the Integrity Code.

Safeguarding children and young people

We’ve developed a suite of resources to help everyone work together to keep children and young people safe from harm and abuse. These resources also show how what support we will provide for organisations that adopt the Integrity Code to meet their obligations (Minimum standard 3).

Child safeguarding and protection course

We have launched a new course to support you in keeping children and young people in sports and recreation safe.

For organisations that adopt the Integrity Code, this can be used for the safeguarding training required under Minimum standard 3.

Find information about the course here: https://sportintegrity.nz/education/child-safeguarding-and-protection-course

Online guidance

We’ve developed comprehensive online guidance to help everyone create the safest possible environments for children and young people.

Organisations can use this guidance to help meet the requirement in minimum standard 3 to have and implement policies specifying safe practices.

Model policy and risk assessment tool

We have developed a draft model safeguarding policy. Organisations that adopt the Integrity Code can use this policy to meet their obligations to have a safeguarding policy. This is a draft – we will provide the final version when the final Integrity Code is released along with other model policies that organisations are required to have.
