About us
In recent years, there have been many reports both here and overseas of abuse, bullying and other harmful behaviour in sport and recreation settings.
In 2022, the government agreed that the best way to protect against these integrity issues was to set up a new organisation that would strengthen New Zealand’s approach to integrity in the sport and recreation sector.
We are the Sport Integrity Commission Te Kahu Raunui (the Commission). Our role is to make sport and recreation in Aotearoa New Zealand safer and fairer.
What we do
We provide information, resources and guidance to help keep sport and recreation safe and fair. This involves supporting organisations to protect their members from issues like:
- Abuse
- Harassment
- Bullying
- Racism
- Match-fixing
- Doping in sport
To help us do this, we can set rules and codes for the sector, like the Sports Anti-Doping Rules and the Code of Integrity for Sport and Recreation (Integrity Code).
We also operate a free and independent complaints and mediation service. This service is for everyone in sport and recreation — from people playing or volunteering at local clubs to those working or competing at international levels. We can also help organisations to manage complaints appropriately.
